I'm sensitive and I'd like to stay that way.

I have sensitive ears. Sensitive to the sound of my name being spoken by a loved one. Sensitive to the finite changes in a piece of music. Sensitive to subtle changes in Elliot's meows and purrs. Sensitive to the sounds emitted from cooking pots and pans. But probably most sensitive to the slamming of doors both physical and proverbial.

Being such, I have noticed that people can be placed into two door appropriate categories: Door Slammers and Door Closers.

Slammers let door shut as they will, showing no concern or care for the effect on the frame, foundation, and/or hardware of the door nor for those whose ears may hear the bang, slam, echo of their actions. The door is merely something in their way and they barge through, allowing it to settle on its own once they've passed.

The Door Closers on the other hand will hold the door by the handle or gently along the frame and guide it quietly and safely back to its resting place. Showing attention to the door and an appreciation for it. Or maybe to simply avoid rattling the door of its hinges or creating a disturbance in the innocent ears of the present populace.

Most people aren't aware they fall into one category or the other. Some wouldn't care either way while the conscientious others just might not realize the effect they are having on you (and your little ears). Sit by a busy door some time or watch your friends and family handling cabinets, closets, etc. and you will start to see it. Some storm in and storm out while others kindly breeze through...both physically and proverbially.
